yes, after 3 months fighting with my thesis, finally on Friday, 28th March i passed thesis presentation or some people called it thesis defence. Yeay! I presented 13 slides for less 10 minutes. While presenting, i was trying to be confidence in every slide and pretending that my lectures were looking me too though i knew they were busy reading my paper. Tips for you Guys before and after having thesis defence.
before:
-Before submitting your documents to department, check your check list again. Don't miss anything!
The requirement for applying thesis defense (Korean Language Departement)
a. Surat Keterangan Layak Uji (this letter stated that your thesis is qualified to apply thesis defence). Remember to get this letter, do not make it your own. Just go to department, ask the secretary to print this letter, Your office has already made the format for you). Then, contact your DPS (thesis supervisor) because you need their sign. Before meeting them, make it sure that you've signed it on 6000 rupiahs stamp.
b. Copy of latest Payment (SPP and BOP). You just need a copy for each items
c. Your Thesis. Copy it thrice. Do not bind it just put a big clip. What you need else is blue map and ballpoint for each copy. Make sure that you have prepared paper for yourself.
d. Print of Student's Profile ( This letter shows all payments that you have paid during your study)
e. Letter of Statement from Korean Native ( in my case, i submitted it. But if your 요약 (yoyak)'s supervisor is Korean Lecturer, this letter will replace by letter of assignment). I shared mine to you guys xixi NATIVE STATEMENT
f. Transcript's grade.
g. Copy of your student card (one sheet)
h. Photo 3x4 (colour)
If you complete those documents it means you are already to get the D-DAY. The office officially inform you after they found judges by short message. A tip: Ask your supervisor first, If they recommend you a date than you should accept it. Usually the office accepts their recommended day.
After submitting, now your turn to prepare presentation :)
Tip for you:
1.Make it simple cause the judge just ask you to explain your paper for 10 minutes. Totally I had 13 slides to present on d-day.
2.Put picture in each slide. For instance I attached Park Chung Hee and Chun Doo Hwan photograph instead of giving a paragraph for explaining their policy
3.Prepare your Korean Speech. For everybody who had experience of Korean Speech Contest, the pressure is not big as the contest. However, you need to know how to open and close a presentation, then how to explain a slide by slide without making bored everybody in the room. Addition Tip: Use Eye Contact and Body Language!
4. Do some exercise like a trial. Ask your friend to watch it and ask them to give some questions. I think it will help you a lot!
5. Pray to God, Call your Mum and Dad, do anything that can make you calmer. Maybe take a break for some minutes during exercise. Inhale and Exhale slowly.
6. Stay Healthy! Do not sleep too night, do not drink ice too much!
7. Below are must bring items on your D-DAY
- Student Card
-Copy of Latest BOP and SPP payment
8. Last but not least, Prepare your Outfit . A white shirt and black skirt (it doesn't matter whether you wear the long or the short one). In my case, I wore satin shirt ,satin black dress,black hijab, brown floral wedge.
